Board approves elementary school credit card and raises student milk price to $0.40

The North Canaan Board of Education voted unanimously at its Dec. 10 meeting to approve a credit card for North Canaan Elementary School and to increase the student milk price by $0.05 to $0.40 beginning Jan. 6, 2025.
On the credit card measure, Chair Amy Dodge moved approval and Principal Beth Johnson explained that two people would be authorized to use the card for specific purposes, that it would be kept locked on school premises and used only when needed. Mrs. Johnson said she will bring the required paperwork back to the January board meeting to continue the procurement process. The motion was seconded by Stephannie Grant and passed 7–0.
The board then approved a milk-price increase to $0.40, effective Jan. 6, 2025, to comply with a federal requirement as calculated through the paid lunch equity tool. Chair Dodge moved the increase and Mrs. Grant seconded; the motion passed 7–0.
Both actions were recorded as standard operational measures: the credit card to support school purchasing with restricted access and the milk-price adjustment to align with federal compliance calculations.
