The North Canaan Board of Education re-elected Amy Dodge as chair and selected Christopher Jacques as vice chair during its Dec. 10, 2024 organizational meeting.
Superintendent Melony Brady-Shanley opened the election process at 6:33 p.m. Christopher Jacques nominated Amy Dodge for chair and Lindsey Crane seconded the nomination. With no other nominations, the board closed nominations and voted 6–yes (Crane, Helminiak, Grant, Jacques, Riva, Simmons) and 1 abstain (Dodge), resulting in Dodge's re-election. "Newly re-elected Chair, Amy Dodge resumed the meeting," the minutes record.
Chair Dodge then accepted nominations for vice-chair. Stephannie Grant nominated Christopher Jacques and Dodge seconded. The board voted 6–yes (Crane, Dodge, Grant, Helminiak, Riva, Simmons) and 1 abstain (Jacques), electing Jacques as vice chair.
Nominations for secretary followed. Stephannie Grant nominated Amy Helminiak, seconded by Christopher Jacques; two other nominees declined. The board closed nominations and recorded a 6–yes, 1–abstain vote (Helminiak abstaining in the recorded tally). The minutes show the motion carried as recorded.
Board members participating in the meeting were Lindsey Crane, Amy Dodge, Stephannie Grant, Amy Helminiak, Christopher Jacques, Brooke Riva and Kristine Simmons. The newly constituted leadership will preside over board business in the coming months as the district prepares for ongoing budget and policy work ahead of the calendar year.
