Oxford council directs attorney review of sewer contract; public works reports pump failure and approves shop bathroom work

At the Jan. 14 Oxford City Council meeting, members asked staff to assemble the sewer-project contract and invoices for attorney review before the February meeting to determine total payments and outstanding obligations.
Public Works Director Scot Wetjen reported SBR Tank #2’s hydro pump failed over the Christmas weekend and is under repair. Scot said he is working with Iowa Pump Works, which is disputing warranty coverage; he is pursuing further action to resolve the warranty issue.
Scot also reported one fire hydrant near the water tower needs replacement. He requested council approval to install a bathroom (toilet, sink and eyewash station) at the Public Works shop. Council approved proceeding with the project using in-house labor for all work other than cutting to the sewer line for the sewer connection.
The council’s direction that the city attorney review the sewer contract and invoices was recorded as a follow-up item to be completed before the February meeting. Staff will present contract documents and invoice totals at the next regular meeting.
