Maple Heights board approves renewals and new agreements for student supports, data and curriculum

The Maple Heights Board of Education approved a package of partner agreements, contract renewals and program adoptions at its June 22 meeting, authorizing staff to continue or begin work with several external providers aimed at student supports, staffing and data systems.
Highlights of items the board approved include:
- A renewal with Frontline Technologies Group to provide personnel management functions and a professional-learning management system that will move professional learning records and CEU tracking into a digital catalog.
- A College Now Greater Cleveland MOU renewal to continue college- and career-access supports in high schools, including assistance with financial-aid applications, college applications and field trips, described by staff as a longstanding partner.
- An Applewood Center MOU to place counselors in district buildings to offer behavioral-health and family-support services onsite.
- A new contract for Schoolytics (Selah Incorporated) to deliver individualized data dashboards that pull assessment scores, attendance and behavior metrics across systems; staff said the district will discontinue using the Illuminate product.
- A renewal of Zen Educate, a staffing vendor that helps recruit paraprofessionals and intervention specialists and allows the district to hire successful temps directly if both parties agree.
- Continued use of Cross Thread Solutions for on-call translation and interpreter services to support families with limited English proficiency.
- Adoption of the Character Strong curriculum districtwide after PBIS staff reviewed multiple vendors and recommended Character Strong for its grade-level scaffolding, tiered interventions and embedded professional development; student-wellness staff said the program also offers family-connection resources and aligns with restorative-practice work already underway.
During the meeting Dominique Moore, site coordinator for Communities in Schools at Maple Heights High School, had reported that CIS activities impacted 693 students this year with 33 community partners and 24 school-support meetings; she described caseload outcomes including a 63% rate of students meeting or making progress on attendance goals and a 100% graduation rate among her seniors. Board members said these partnerships help deliver coordinated supports for students.
All contract and MOU items on the agenda were approved by roll call with Ms. Cheeks, Ms. Hunter, Mr. Blackwell and Board President Moore voting yes. Administrative staff noted that professional development tied to some program adoptions will be integrated into existing PD days and that implementation supports, monitoring and coaching are included in vendor pricing where applicable.
The board also approved new in-house nursing job descriptions to replace contracted services and approved the local professional development committee's initial meeting date. Several routine resolutions (commercial insurance renewal, records-retention schedule) were carried as well.
