Pella Historic Preservation Commission re-elects officers, approves routine items and hears update on 215 Main St. renovation

The City of Pella Historic Preservation Commission on Jan. 12, 2026 re-elected Rhonda Kermode as Chairperson and Bruce Boertje as Vice-Chair for 2026, approved the meeting agenda and minutes from Dec. 8, 2025, and received an update on the planned relocation of the Planning and Zoning Office to 215 Main St.
Chairperson Rhonda Kermode presided. Bruce Boertje moved and Jill Jansen seconded approval of the Jan. 12 tentative agenda; the motion carried 4-0. The Commission then approved the Dec. 8 minutes on a motion by Boertje and second by Lori Baugh; that motion also carried 4-0. Jansen moved and Baugh seconded the motion to re-elect Kermode and Boertje to their roles for 2026; the motion carried 4-0.
During other business, Commissioner Bruce Boertje asked about the progress of renovations at 215 Main St., the site planned for the Planning and Zoning Office relocation. Planning and Zoning Director Gerald Buydos said severe water damage was discovered in the building and that change orders must be approved before construction can continue.
The Commission scheduled its next regular meeting for Feb. 9, 2026 and adjourned at 6:05 p.m.
