CDD terminates Laz’s Lawn for cause and hires GulfScapes at higher cost

The River Ridge Community Development District authorized management to terminate the landscape contract with Laz’s Lawn Service, Inc. for poor performance and to immediately engage GulfScapes Landscape Maintenance Services after an added agenda item on Nov. 19.
District staff said GulfScapes proposed a $58,500 contract, which is approximately $13,000 higher than the $45,000 amount budgeted for landscape services. Staff noted GreenScapes was not an option after declining to execute the district’s standard contract. The board voted unanimously to terminate Laz’s Lawn and execute the GulfScapes agreement; the motion was offered by Kurt Blumenthal and seconded by Bob Schultz.
Board members discussed using funds withheld from Laz’s Lawn Service to offset plant replacement costs and using unassigned funds to cover the budget increase. Management was authorized to effect the termination and begin the new engagement immediately.
