Berlin Board votes to return $35,718 unaudited surplus to town general fund

The Berlin Board of Education voted unanimously July 22 to return an unaudited 2023–24 surplus of $35,718 to the town general fund.
Superintendent Ashley Dorsy told the board the current unaudited year-end balance is $35,718 and said the district plans a full year-end report in September that will document where funds were spent, noting that spending this year was "predominantly spent [on] technology." Dorsy proposed preparing a letter to parents that would explain cuts and list how the money was used so the information is publicly available.
The motion to return the unaudited balance to the town's general fund was made by Peter and seconded by Jen; the board approved the motion by a 6-0 vote.
The board will receive a full audited year-end report at the September meeting that will provide final figures and a detailed accounting of expenditures.
