Advisory board adopts updated Moundhouse strategic plan and new vision wording

The Moundhouse advisory board approved revisions to Draft Two of its Strategic Action Plan at its June 25 meeting, adopting a new vision statement and several wording changes intended to clarify priorities for exhibitions, education, collections and fundraising.

Karina Britz walked members through the draft and the edits made since the prior review. The board favored the first of two proposed vision statements; Karina read the approved wording as "create meaningful connections between people, history, and nature, inspiring lifelong stewardship for our coastal environment and appreciation for the many cultures that define our community." Members also selected the second of two proposed values wordings emphasizing "museum quality" programming.

Board members discussed implementation items across the plan, including scheduled reviews of the collections management policy (the board agreed to a two‑year review cadence), adding professional development for staff to strengthen budget requests, and clarifying that the museum manager should "secure sponsors and partnerships and work with Friends of the Moundhouse for their support in fundraising efforts." The group agreed that including such operational details in the plan helps when the museum seeks Town budget or grant funding.

A motion to adopt the agreed changes to the plan was moved and seconded; the board voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously. The board instructed staff to revise the draft to reflect the decisions and to return a final version for distribution to Town Council later this summer or early September.

The board set its next meeting for Aug. 27, 2026, and placed the botanical garden discussion and final plan review on that agenda.
