Resident urges township to fix hazardous sight lines at Springfield Avenue intersection

Donald Rocco, who gave his address as 337 Springfield Avenue in Folsom, told the Township of Springfield at its Dec. 24 meeting that the new owner of a neighboring business parks a forklift and places inventory that prevents motorists from seeing traffic on McDade Road when emerging from Springfield Avenue.

"I can't even see McDade Road," Rocco said, describing how delivery trucks and parked vehicles block sight lines and make pulling out "terrifying," especially now that his 19-year-old son has a driver's license and his wife is recovering from spinal surgery.

Township staff and the meeting chair said they would review vehicle-code provisions for obstructed visibility and said staff would contact the business owner. A member of public safety suggested enforcement options and the board discussed installing signage or mirrors as possible near-term remedies.

The exchange occurred during the public-forum portion of the meeting after Rocco presented photos and asked the township to consider short-term measures to reduce the hazard. The board directed staff to follow up with the property owner and to investigate whether existing ordinances or traffic-safety tools (signs, mirrors, or enforcement actions) can address the obstruction.

If enforcement or property-owner cooperation is required, staff said they will return with specific recommendations to the board. The meeting record does not show a formal directive or vote on a particular remedy during the session.
