Berlin Lions Club donates 61 classroom gift cards as student jazz combo opens meeting

The Berlin Board of Education meeting on Nov. 25 opened with a student jazz combo and an appearance by the Berlin Lions Club, which presented a large classroom donation.
Dan Dagel, a Lions Club representative, said the club was "excited to be here tonight to present 61 gift cards with a value of $150 each over $99,000 worth of gift cards," describing them as a card for every K–5 and pre-K classroom in the district. The superintendent said the Lions’ long-running partnership supports events such as the annual UPB picnic and provides direct classroom help.
Music director Tyler Bole introduced the jazz combo and advertised the high school's winter musical, The Wizard of Oz, scheduled for Feb. 28–March 2. Bole explained that, for the first time in many years, the musical was open to students in grades six through 12.
Board members and administrators thanked the Lions Club and the student performers. No formal vote was required for the donation; the presentation was received as part of the meeting's ceremonial items.
The board moved on to awards and regular business after the presentation.
