Superintendent reports multiple grant prospects for WLHS fields; strategic-planning kickoff set for Sept. 15

Superintendent Shawn Parkhurst updated the Windsor Locks Board of Education on potential funding and next steps for WLHS athletic facilities at the Sept. 11 meeting.
Parkhurst said the district is still awaiting a decision on a CIF grant and that an additional potential planning grant of about $250,000 may become available to apply for. He also said the T‑Mobile Sweepstakes is still being pursued and that the Hartford Foundation outcome is pending. No grant has been awarded yet and the administration described these as prospects rather than finalized funding.
Separately, staff reported that a community and staff survey tied to the district’s strategic planning process has received approximately 60 responses to date. A kickoff meeting is scheduled for Sept. 15 to form three work teams focused on Student Performance, Culture & Climate, and Operations & Facilities, with implementation targeted for the 2026–27 school year.
The board did not take action or approve any grant applications at the Sept. 11 meeting; the update was informational and the superintendent indicated staff will pursue applicable grant opportunities and report back.
