IWWC staff report highlights Sustainable Westbrook talks, food scraps recycling and new intern project

At the Feb. 3 meeting of the Inland Wetlands & Watercourses Commission, staff reported several operational and sustainability items tied to the Sustainable Westbrook initiative.
Heidi Wallace reported cleaning up Conservation Commission supplies in advance of a safety inspection. Wallace also recounted a meeting with Ryan Engels about Sustainable Westbrook and a Zoom meeting that included Alyson Finnegan, Administrative Assistant to the First Selectman (Public Works and Technology). According to the minutes, Finnegan discussed the food scrap recycling program in Essex; Ryan Engels indicated he would like Westbrook to pursue the issue.
The commission also recorded the addition of a winter intern, Gabby Spash, who will carry out a detailed documentation project of Open Space in Westbrook, covering federal, state, municipal, land trust and private holdings, as part of the Sustainable Westbrook work. No formal votes or budget approvals for these initiatives were recorded in the minutes.
