Village of Cleves adopts comprehensive zoning-code update

Council members voted unanimously to adopt Ordinance 6 (2026), a comprehensive set of text amendments and zoning-district changes to the Village of Cleves zoning code. The ordinance, presented as a third reading, implements code modernization that officials said consolidates decades of piecemeal changes into a single, updated document developed in partnership with Hamilton County and the planning commission.
Supporters on council described the update as long overdue and said it will make future administration of zoning easier. Chris Schneider of Hamilton County, who worked with the village on the revisions, was present to answer questions and was publicly thanked by members for his and volunteers’ contributions. Council noted the planning commission and public hearings were held as required under Ohio law.
Council president moved to adopt Ordinance 6, 2026; the motion was seconded and carried on a roll call vote with all present council members voting yes. Officials also told the public that a pending mini planning grant has been placed on hold pending adoption of the ordinance and that passage should free that grant to move forward.
The ordinance’s full text was made available on the village website and in print by appointment, according to council. The village said it will publish the updated code online for public review and that the public had multiple opportunities to comment during earlier hearings.
