Multiple Eagle Ridge residents told the council that removing a local speed hump would worsen documented speeding and safety risks in their neighborhood.
At the public comment period, Vicky Graham said motorists frequently exceed posted speeds coming off Scenic Drive and approaching a blind hill and that the hump reduces speed. "They come in off South Mountain doing the same thing...the only way to do that is to come past my house," she said, urging the council to keep the hump. Another resident, Neil Shaver, asked why the city would spend money removing the hump if it helped slow traffic.
Police said targeted enforcement is feasible: Darren Adams of the police department suggested deploying traffic officers at specific times to gather data and enforce speed limits. Council members said staff will put the topic on next week's agenda for a formal vote and noted the city is pursuing funding for a bypass that could reduce cut-through traffic in the long term.
No formal action was taken at this meeting; council directed staff to bring a formal agenda item for consideration at the next council meeting.
