The Planning & Zoning Board approved two separate sign permits Wednesday for small West Miami businesses.
Isabelle Valenuela, owner of Cake Emporio, asked to add crown logo decals to the storefront glass and a matching PVC crown sign above an expansion into the adjacent tenant space. Valenuela said she wanted to “keep it simple” and use the crown logo as a pedestrian and brand marker. The board voted unanimously to approve the permit with a condition: the crown logo on the upper sign should appear as the crown outline used in existing branding rather than enclosed in a large oval background, and window decals should remain minimal to preserve the storefront’s visual character.
A second sign application from MA Jewelry (applicant not present) sought non‑illuminated channel letters mounted to an awning at 1783 Southwest 67th Avenue. Staff noted the proposed sign occupies well under the code’s area limit for façade signage. Board members acknowledged the awning and parapet geometry limit placement options and concluded denial would be unfair; the permit passed on a 3–1 vote, with Acting Chair Diana Rio recording the lone no vote.
Both approvals were conditioned on compliance with the code and any applicable building permits.
