Britt council approves demolition bid, raises bulk-water rate and OKs personnel and service contracts

At its June 16 meeting, the Britt City Council approved a series of operational motions including a low-bid contract for house demolition, staffing and pay adjustments, service contracts for the water plant and a rate increase for bulk water customers.
Council member Thompson moved and Council member Hildman seconded to accept the low bid from Brian Hiscocks for demolition and site cleanup at 188 4th Ave NE for $7,351.00. The motion carried.
The council approved several personnel- and compensation-related changes: a handbook revision specifying that insurance coverage becomes effective 'on the first of the month following 30 days of employment' (motion by Thompson, second by Hiscocks); increasing monthly cleaning pay to $425 with the city purchasing supplies (motion by Thompson, second by Stewart); and appointing Diane Price, City Administrator/Clerk, as the Benefits Administrator for city insurance through Insurance and Financial Solutions (motion by Stewart, second by Thompson). All motions carried.
On utilities and contracts, the council approved a Smart Sights quote for the Water Plant (motion by Hildman, second by Stewart) and accepted the HACH Service Partnership quotation (motion by Stewart, second by Hildman). Both contracts were approved by majority vote.
The council approved a 10% immediate increase to the bulk water rate and a recurring 2% increase each July 1 thereafter (motion by Stewart, second by Hildman). Council also raised the compost bucket price to $25 per load (motion by Thompson, second by Hiscocks). Both fee changes were approved.
Councilmember Hiscocks moved, Councilmember Stewart seconded approval to pay James Thompson $75 for each of four nuisance-property mowings; the council also authorized advertising for mowing bids with an award to be returned to the council at its July 7 meeting. The council additionally voted to advertise for part-time snowplow drivers and approved the 5K route for the fair. Mayor Jim Nelson discussed the Annual League of Cities Conference, and the council listed several discussion items including bids for the Hobo Museum second floor, a replacement door at 59 Main Ave S and cameras at the pool.
All operational motions recorded in the minutes carried; the minutes do not record any dissenting roll-call tallies for these motions. The meeting adjourned at 7:38 p.m.
