Plainfield council agrees to switch golf-cart safety flag requirement to SMV signs; street seal coating set for June

Plainfield city officials agreed on May 13 to pursue an ordinance amendment replacing the orange safety-flag requirement for golf carts with slow-moving-vehicle (SMV) signage, after the City Clerk reported sheriff’s office guidance favoring SMV signs. The council reached consensus to amend the ordinance to require SMV signs rather than orange flags.
Maintenance Superintendent Brice Dietz told the council that the contractor Steffes will begin seal-coating city streets in June. Dietz also reported he has ordered two new water meters for the concession stand and will install them soon.
City Clerk/Treasurer Brittney Lentz said she had spoken with Sheriff Pickett and Deputy Whitney regarding the correct marking for slow-moving vehicles; council discussion produced consensus but no formal ordinance language or vote was recorded in the minutes. The council did not schedule a specific follow-up ordinance reading at the meeting.
