Sherman committee outlines RFP plan for senior center architect, seeks legal review of prior drawings

Members stressed the importance of a concise program and clear schematic requirements to prevent ambiguous bids and price escalation. Laura Jagodzinski noted the old RFP called for a minimum of four responses and that she has interview criteria she prepared; she clarified for the record that “Laura’s documents” are a compilation she assembled for informational purposes and not a proprietary set of materials.
The committee discussed whether drawings previously prepared by an architect identified in the transcript as Maura may be reused. Andrea Maloney stated Maura had requested $30,000–$40,000 for her drawings; Jim Best said the town attorney had indicated ownership could go either way and that a legal dispute was possible. Don Lowe agreed to research Maura’s contract and contact the town attorney the next day. The transcript shows the committee discussed removing Maura’s drawings from the website if they will not be included in the RFP.
Joel Bruzinski also said committee members should use town-issued @ShermanCT.gov email addresses for committee business and warned against using group “reply all” email chains, which Andrea Maloney said can be treated as an illegal meeting. Public comment included a brief statement from Suzette Berger on behalf of the Friends of the Senior Center announcing a vacancy on that volunteer group.
