Sherman advisory committee amends minutes to note RFP vote was a simple majority and elects officers

The Town of Sherman Senior Center Building Advisory Committee voted on March 10, 2026, to amend its Feb. 24 meeting minutes to remove the word “unanimous” and record the decision on the RFP as “Passed by Simple Majority.” Joel Bruzinski moved the amendment; the motion passed with eight in favor and one abstention.
The change followed concerns raised by Laura Jagodzinski on behalf of absent member Karen Cardillo that the earlier minutes incorrectly stated the RFP vote was unanimous. Joel Bruzinski said municipal meetings require clear roll-call-style language in minutes and recommended recording the number of “nays” and “yays” when votes are not unanimous. He said minutes raised after a meeting should be addressed at the next meeting rather than by email.
During the same session the committee elected officers. Don Lowe moved to elect Karen Cardillo as chair; the motion carried unanimously. After Carol Sperling said she did not want to serve as vice chair, Joel Bruzinski moved and members unanimously elected Joan Laucius as vice chair.
The committee discussed tabling the Feb. 24 minutes for further review, but members also held a show-of-hands that indicated a majority supported proceeding with the RFP process while the minutes were clarified. The committee recorded that the majority had voted to go to RFP and agreed to the wording change to reflect a simple-majority result.
The committee adjourned at 7:50 PM.
