Urbana Free Library trustees approved the FY27 budget at their June 9 meeting and carried several routine payments and a FY26 budget amendment that transfers funds for an immediate roof repair. The board voted by voice on the package of items after hearing reports and presentations earlier in the evening.
The board approved payment of vendor bills and membership fees presented on the consent and individual-action agendas. Payments approved included an Amaran bill for $10,088.99 and the annual RAILS (OverDrive) membership fee (amount read in the transcript with formatting uncertainty). Trustees also approved a $56,000 shared-license payment to Champaign Public Library to cover pooled licensing for systems such as Polaris and LinkedIn Learning, and to support a planned Vega interface intended to sit on top of Polaris.
A separate FY26 budget amendment was approved to transfer $115,000 from the building fund to library building costs to pay for a partial roof repair. The amendment also moved smaller amounts ($3,000 from collection salary to community engagement salary, and $19,000 from administrative salary to contractual services). The board discussed the size and purpose of the transfers before a voice vote approved the amendment.
Trustees also approved a minor wording change to the hours-of-service policy clarifying that Memorial Day is the 'last Monday' rather than the 'fourth Monday' to account for calendar variations.
The meeting concluded with a motion carried to enter closed session to discuss collective negotiating matters and salary schedules under 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(2); a roll-call vote recorded affirmative votes for the trustees present. The board returned to open session and adjourned shortly after 9 p.m.
What happened next: the board did not take further public votes at the meeting after returning to open session. The FY27 budget and FY26 amendment are effective as approved; follow-up action on the roof repair and any related contracts will be handled administratively.
