School Building Committee approves $106,897.63 in change orders for Sherman School project

Benjamin Chasse, assistant project manager for Newfield, presented a change order log showing the six items and the total. The largest single item was a $93,246.26 change order for drywall replacement and removal in the renovation wing; Board of Education member Tim Laughlin said that work was required because of pre-existing water damage and related mold. Other items included a $6,541.85 change for the fire service main location, a $6,167.13 credit for removing a redundant cafeteria ceiling fan, a $4,715.98 revision to the electrical room to accommodate different slab elevations, ground heater rental and on-site water storage (covered by the construction management contingency), and $8,560.67 for additional rock removal beyond the original allowance.
Chair Kerry Merkel moved to approve potential change orders 18, 14R, 19, 20, 21 and 22 in the total amount of $106,897.63; the motion was seconded by Matt Vogt and the committee voted “All in favor.” The minutes record the vote as unanimous but do not list individual roll-call votes.
The committee did not record additional debate or amendments to the change orders during the meeting. The meeting then proceeded to new business and was adjourned at 12:22 PM.
