Becky Bosis told commissioners the family-run Among Friends Adult Day Center will open in the coming weeks in a renovated portion of the former True Care building on South Poplar. The center, founded by Bosis and her mother (both nurses), fills a local service gap for older adults and people with dementia who need daytime supervision, socialization and nursing oversight but do not require skilled nursing.
Bosis said the facility meets licensing requirements the state Department of Health enforces for day centers (including roughly 40 square feet per client and one toilet and sink per eight clients) and that the renovated front 5,000 square feet will support services for up to 56 people at one time though that capacity is not expected to be typical. Meals will be provided by Kitchen Social; Visit Casper will supply transportation until the center acquires a van. The center will accept VA payments (credentialing pending) and long-term-care insurance; Medicaid’s reimbursement was described as limited (roughly $25 for a half day in certain programs), and Medicare does not cover adult day services.
Bosis said the center will offer full-time and part-time membership options, half-day programs and a drop-in rate for registered members; a separate nonprofit, the Still Me Foundation, has been created to provide scholarships and support for people who cannot privately pay. Bosis invited the public to an open house May 16–17 and a ribbon-cutting June 18.
