Carbon County Commissioners on March 19 agreed to explore private-market options for employee health insurance after a presentation by HR Administrator Kate Asbury and Matt Hardy of Marsh.
Hardy described the process for exploring market opportunities and told the board there is no disadvantage to testing alternative cost options; he also said BlueCross BlueShield would still proceed with a renewal while the market review occurs. Present at the discussion were Deputy Sheriff Kelly Carrington, Clerk & Recorder Macque L. Bohleen and county road crew member Nick Teesdale.
The board asked staff to solicit responses from insurers; Administrative Officer Angela Newell will schedule a follow-up meeting after the county receives a response expected Tuesday the 21st. No formal contract changes or votes on coverage were made at the meeting.
