Select Board approves routine appointments, grant extension and reimbursements; enters executive session
Summary
At its Jan. 27 meeting the Select Board confirmed three police officer appointments and licensing-agent assignments, extended a Community Preservation grant deadline for Cape Playhouse to Dec. 31, 2026, approved a tourism committee reimbursement, accepted warrants and minutes, and voted to enter executive session on litigation.
The Select Board took several procedural and consent votes on Jan. 27.
Appointments: The board approved appointments for Madison McCarthy, Bridal Sheraton St. Fleur, and Derek Keenan as police officers with full powers (effective Jan. 25, 2026, through Dec. 31, 2026) and as licensing board agents (term to March 31, 2027), subject to successful completion of probationary periods. Roll-call votes recorded the board voting Aye.
Grant extension: The board extended the Dennis Cape Playhouse Community Preservation Committee grant expiration date from Dec. 31, 2025 to Dec. 31, 2026 to allow additional structural work to be completed prior to remaining restoration tasks. Motion carried by roll call (all Aye).
Tourism reimbursement: The Select Board approved a $404.10 reimbursement request for a tourism committee designee who attended a national symposium; the reimbursement was approved as part of the consent agenda.
Warrants and contracts: The board reviewed and accepted payroll and vendor warrants (payroll warrants: $557,924.26 signed Jan. 7; $531,776.15 signed Jan. 14; $542,513.21 signed Jan. 21; vendor warrant: $3,826,352.89 signed Jan. 14) and noted a contracts summary that includes a design-services contract for the West Dennis Graded Schoolhouse restoration project with Catalyst Architecture Interiors ($278,607) among other items.
Minutes: The board approved the Jan. 6 and Jan. 14, 2026 meeting minutes as presented (with recorded abstentions where noted).
Executive session: At the meeting's close the board voted to enter executive session under state open-meeting law (chapter 30A, section 21(a), reason 3) to discuss strategy regarding collective bargaining or litigation (Town of Dennis v. Northern Nominee Trust) and did not return to public session.
