The Select Board voted Jan. 27 to adopt Portside Community Park as the name for town-owned property at 187 Upper County Road in Dennisport.
Josh Brimdier, presenting for the Dennisport-West Dennis Advancement Committee, said the committee ran a 2.5-month outreach and survey that drew roughly 120 participants; "PortSide" received about 60 votes and a clear plurality. The committee emphasized choosing a name that reads as a community park rather than memorializing a single person.
Board members discussed whether to add "Dennis" to the display name and considered signage and historical interpretation. Several members said the chosen name would be easy for residents to use informally ("I'll meet you down at the Portside"). Carlin moved to adopt the committee'recommended name and the motion was seconded. Roll-call voting recorded the motion carried; the committee will post signage and proceed with next steps.
The board thanked the committee volunteers for conducting outreach and said the name will be used as the park moves through design and permitting.
