BeFreeWellness co-founders Ayanna (founder) and Lindsey (executive director) told the coalition they deliver trauma-informed yoga, movement and mindfulness classes to a range of community partners and argued that integrating short, accessible movement sessions into town structures could help prevent and address trauma and substance-use harms.
Ayanna described founding the nonprofit after her own recovery and said the organization focuses on inclusive classes that bring together people from diverse backgrounds. "I am 9 years sober now," Ayanna said, and described restorative yoga and short movement practices as tools that can be used in schools, libraries, county programs and first-responder training.
The guests said they already have opioid-related funding to run a workshop series in the neighboring town of Sandwich and that their classes can be offered free or donation-based. Committee members asked practical questions about scheduling, transportation and town facilities; senior-center staff explained many town buildings currently have limited availability and that a capital plan to reopen facilities will be discussed in May.
Committee members offered to help BeFree write a short (one-page) proposal with a dollar amount for the coalition to consider; Ayanna and Lindsey agreed to submit a proposal for the group to review.
Next steps: BeFree will draft a one-page funding proposal and the coalition will consider allocating support and helping with outreach and venue arrangements.
