Barbara Krizek, the county’s Environmental Health Lead, submitted a letter of resignation at the March 17 Carbon County commissioners meeting but told the board she is willing to assist with sanitarian tasks for up to 10 hours per week.
Sanitarian Jesse Gutierrez said he would benefit from Krizek’s limited assistance because he has less experience with surveying and DEQ requirements. Commissioners discussed interim options to process septic applications and other reviews, including asking Stahly Engineering to provide review recommendations that the Board of Health would then approve, or relying on a Memorandum with the Stillwater sanitarian. The board did not set a firm hiring timeline and noted that the sanitarian job description might require amendment.
The county’s Human Resources director and the county engineer were listed as possible resources for the transition; no formal action was taken beyond accepting Krizek’s resignation and noting her offer of limited assistance.
The board said follow-up discussions will determine who will perform technical reviews and how the county will recruit or reclassify the position.
