Eufaula council hears economic development, library and public-safety updates; approves delegates and enters executive session

The Eufaula City Council received several routine reports on March 3, 2026 while conducting standard business including approval of consent items and selection of voting delegates for the Alabama League of Municipalities annual meeting.
Mayor Jack B. Tibbs Jr. told the council American EV has revised its employment forecast to about 200 workers and aims to begin production in late 2026. He said ALMAC is still working through property-acquisition issues with the port authority and projects roughly 50 employees per initial production line. The mayor also reported Phase III of a demolition project began, removing five houses and part of the old Lake Eufaula Motor Lodge, and noted Ellianos Coffee has opened.
The mayor said he met with Alabama Conservation Commissioner Chris Blankenship about renovating tennis courts at Lakepoint and discussed the possibility of converting an old golf clubhouse into a veterans resource center. He also said the Eufaula Community Center received a grant to provide electric bicycles, with some bicycles to be placed at the Eufaula Kayak welcome center.
Library Director Mandy Warren updated the council on 2025 library statistics, reviewed completed renovation projects, and outlined priorities for 2026 including cost reductions, financial sustainability and youth programming. She promoted upcoming events including an "Evening with Picasso" scheduled for March 12, 2026 and activities tied to the Eufaula Pilgrimage.
Council committee reports covered education and community events, including new AP Art classes at Eufaula High School and registration dates for Pre-K and kindergarten. Parks and Recreation updates included Eufaula Kayak opening March 7 and the opening day for baseball and softball on March 21. Public Works reported routine sanitation and maintenance metrics for Feb. 16–27, 2026.
Police Chief Danny Christ reminded the council of a March 10 town-hall meeting at 5:30 p.m., mentioned Alabama Senate Bill 120 in the state legislature and said the city will advertise to fill the Code Enforcement Officer vacancy after Jason Trahan's resignation. Fire Chief Ryan Feggins said Senate Bill 269 is on the floor and important to emergency services and reported the fire alarm installation program continues.
The council approved a motion naming President Pro Tem Otis Hill as voting delegate to the Alabama League of Municipalities meeting (Mayor Jack B. Tibbs Jr. as first alternate and Councilman Marvin Brown as second alternate), approved the consent agenda including a Claims Docket totaling $2,032.50, and voted to adjourn to an executive session to discuss a potential offer to purchase real property; the roll call vote to enter executive session recorded five yeas and no nays. The council reconvened after approximately fifteen minutes and adjourned the meeting later that evening.
