The Town of Bozrah has applied for a Local Initiative Support Corporation (LISC) grant to convert the town‑owned Fitchville Annex at 194 Fitchville Road into a child care facility, First Selectman Glenn Pianka said in a January letter to state legislators.
Pianka asked State Senator Martha Marx and State Representative Mark DeCaprio to consider the town's request for $400,000 in support and wrote that Bozrah purchased the building in February 2025 for $300,000 to address a local shortage of child care. The application is intended to expand access to before‑ and after‑school care and to increase participation in the town’s Pre‑K program.
The Fields Memorial School Board of Education and superintendent provided a signed letter of support dated Jan. 6, 2026. In the letter Board Chair Michel Leask and Superintendent Dr. Jack Zamary wrote, "We are excited about the opportunity to have a child care program at 194 Fitchville Road in Bozrah, adjacent to Fields Memorial School," and said the program would support families and increase access to Pre‑K and after‑school programs.
Pianka told the board Jan. 20 that the town has applied for LISC funding and expects a general response by the end of the month; he noted the town is also aware of statewide funding opportunities and said the town is prepared to meet with agency representatives as needed.
Public comments at the meeting included favorable remarks about the Fitchville Annex proposal and interest in how the plan would be implemented; no formal vote on the grant application or facility plan was taken during the Jan. 20 meeting.
