Bozrah selectmen set 2026–27 budget priorities; Ballinger pushes for part‑time building inspector

The Bozrah Board of Selectmen on Jan. 20 discussed budget priorities for fiscal 2026–27, with Selectman Bill Ballinger urging the town to add a part‑time building inspector with regular weekly office hours and to clarify oversight for the zoning enforcement officer.
Ballinger told the board he would like the town to hire a part‑time building inspector and for the Zoning Enforcement Officer to report to the chair of the Planning and Zoning Commission and “work within her job title,” comments recorded in the meeting minutes.
First Selectman Glenn Pianka said he is reviewing a new library contract with Lebanon for the coming budget season and expects a cost estimate for rehabilitating the DPW town garage to inform capital planning. Pianka also identified a planned budget item for a cross culvert on Gifford Lane and said standard salary increases are being budgeted at 3 percent while some positions may receive larger raises to keep pay competitive.
Ballinger also asked that Susan Ververis be given the title Administrative Assistant, saying that title better fits her duties as recorded in the minutes. The board did not take a vote on personnel title changes at the Jan. 20 meeting; the items were presented as budget goals and suggestions for the coming fiscal cycle.
The board approved the minutes from its Dec. 16, 2025 meeting by unanimous vote earlier in the Jan. 20 session. The meeting adjourned at 8:12 p.m.
