Board approves 2026–27 school calendar, appoints CABE representative and removes Community Outreach Subcommittee

The New Hartford Board of Education approved a set of routine actions at its Feb. 3 meeting, including adoption of the 2026–27 district calendar, appointments to external and internal roles, and several first readings of policy revisions.
Penny Miller moved to approve the 2026–27 school calendar; Frank Rodenberg seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Kristin Young moved to appoint Kirby Morante as the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE) board representative for New Hartford; Penny Miller seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Jon Puz moved to appoint Kristin Young as the School Facility Utilization Task Force chair and BOE liaison; Penny Miller seconded and that motion also passed unanimously.
The board approved the Jan. 15, 2026 minutes (motion by Thomas Buzzi, second by Penny Miller) and the expenditure report (motion by Penny Miller, second by Jon Puz); both motions passed unanimously. The board held first readings on revisions to policies covering purchasing procedures (Policy 3320), Family and Medical Leave Act personnel policies (4152.6 / 4252.6), Special Education instruction (Policy 6171) and orientation of board members (Policy 9230). Thomas Buzzi moved, and Penny Miller seconded, to remove the Community Outreach Subcommittee as a standing committee; that motion passed unanimously and the board discussed making community outreach a recurring agenda item instead.
Penny Miller moved to adjourn at 9:20 p.m.; Kirby Morante seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
