The Board of Education of Berwyn South School District 100 convened a public hearing on the district’s amended fiscal year 2026 budget and, following no public objections, approved the amended FY26 budget as part of the night’s consent agenda.
Vice President Corn Steinfeld opened the hearing and the board confirmed a quorum with members Steinfeld, Irene Gonzalez, Drent, Renee Palace and Trantham present; Jimenez, Butler and Caballero were recorded absent with notice. The hearing notice stated the tentative amended budget was on file for public inspection at the Lavergne Education Center and listed Heritage Middle School as the hearing location.
Finance presenter Jenny Hosty reported the district’s bank balance at $64,900,000 and said month-to-date revenue for May was about $3.4–$3.9 million; she warned that Cook County has announced that tax distributions will be "drastically delayed," noting the district may need to rely on reserves or short-term borrowing. "They've sent out training sessions of how to borrow money from the county," she said, adding that grants are winding down at the end of June.
Hosty also explained the two fund-transfer items on the agenda after a public question: the permanent $5 million transfer from the Operations & Maintenance Fund 20 to the Capital Projects Fund 60 is an annual transfer because capital work has no separate levy line; similarly, working cash receipts (from interest) are funneled into capital improvements. "Kind of the same thing with working cash," she said, explaining why the transfers are routine.
The board moved and carried the consent agenda — which included the amended FY26 budget — by roll call. After adoption the budget will be posted on the district website and submitted to the state.
The board recorded the absence with notice of three members and carried other routine business; no public commenters opposed the budget at the hearing. The board adjourned the hearing and reconvened open session to continue regular agenda items.
