Sterling Board hears budget update: $83,245.22 remaining for 2023–24; grant spending deadlines set

The Sterling Board of Education received a fiscal update Sept. 18 showing a remaining balance of $83,245.22 in the 2023–24 budget and no open purchase orders, the board record shows.
Sara Howley, Business Manager for the Sterling School District, told the board, "the 2023-2024 Budget balance remaining = $83,245.22," and reported updates on FY25 tuition estimates. Howley also outlined grant deadlines: ARP ESSER and the ARP ESSER Right to Read grants must be fully expended by Sept. 30, 2024, and the ARPA Right to Read funds by Dec. 31, 2024. She said a new Stronger Connections grant through EGMS would be used to fund a Homework Club.
The budget report followed presentation of the consent agenda, which included minutes from the Aug. 21 meeting, the superintendent and administrative reports, the special education director's report, the principal's report, the clinical supervisor's report, and the monthly check register. Victoria Robinson-Lewis moved to approve the consent agenda and Dorothy Capobianco seconded; the minutes record the first vote as "4 in favor, 1 abstention" and specifies that Vice Chair Jennifer Mossner abstained on the Aug. 21 minutes. The minutes also record a later motion to approve the consent agenda that is recorded as unanimous; the minutes do not clearly state whether that second motion referred to the same items or a separate procedural step.
The board received no public comment at the meeting and no further fiscal decisions were recorded. The board adjourned at 6:43 p.m.
