The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 3 adopted a resolution opposing the federal "30 x 30" land preservation goal but directed staff to verify and correct acreage and figure references in the draft before finalizing the document.
Deputy County Attorney Aaron Reynolds told commissioners he had identified inaccuracies in the figures and acreage included in the draft resolution. Commissioner Hansen said he would like the board to target specific federal areas to be "turned back," naming Raymond Mountain WSA and Palisades WSA. Commissioner Harmon said he supported acting on a resolution and stressed the importance of the county having a voice on federal land policy. Chairman King thanked staff for verifying numbers in the document.
During public comment, Marti Halverson, chair of the Lincoln County Republican Party, described the plan as an effort to remove land from production and argued it would harm agriculture, which she said is the state’s third-largest industry. Laura Pearson, identified as a sheep rancher, warned against federal control of state lands and said private land could be subject to eminent domain.
The commission’s motion to approve the resolution was recorded as adopted on consent, and commissioners requested follow-up work to firm up acreage and other numerical references in the document before final publication.
The action is a formal county-level statement opposing a federal conservation target; the resolution does not by itself change county land-management authority or federal policy.
