Commission flags unapproved solar installation at 96 West Central Street; volunteers to revise solar guidelines

At its Jan. 22 meeting the Natick Historic District Commission reported that the applicant for 96 West Central Street installed solar panels in a configuration the commission had not approved, and commissioners discussed revising guidelines to address increasing solar applications.
Chair Chris Milford said the applicant had installed "all 18 on the main roof instead of split between the main roof and back roof," after an approval that had been conditional on receiving revised drawings. Ms. Loomis told the commission that an electrical permit had been issued in August, but the building permit was on hold and there had been no rough inspections.
Commissioner Mike Collins moved to approve two sets of prior meeting minutes earlier in the meeting; both motions were seconded by Vice Chair Joe Devaney and were "unanimously approved without comment or corrections." Later in the meeting, Collins and Commissioner Jessica Allain volunteered to review and revise the Commission's Guidelines to clarify expectations for solar applications and other common requests such as window replacements. Chair Milford suggested breaking the Guidelines into separate, focused documents (for example: guidelines for solar applications, guidelines for window replacements).
The commission continued its discussion of Rules and Regulations and the General Guidelines to the next meeting and adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
