Chair Ganesh Ramachandran presented a Johnson School position paper to the Natick Affordable Housing Trust on Jan. 13 proposing an Article 97 land-swap mechanism to enable potential veteran housing at the Wilson Gardens site.
Ramachandran described the swap as a possible pathway to designate permanent open space at the Johnson School site while allowing residential development at Wilson Gardens that could be used for veteran housing. The paper is intended for submission to the Select Board for consideration.
Trust member Randy Johnson suggested that after the working document is circulated the Trust form a subcommittee that includes stakeholders outside the NAHT — including Town residents and other Town officials — to help with outreach and communications about the proposal.
The Trust did not take a formal vote on the proposal during the meeting. The position paper will be circulated and the Trust will consider outreach planning and stakeholder engagement before any formal direction to the Select Board.
