Sterling staff withdraws P&Z application due to municipal-employee rule; Adams invited to discuss application

At the Jan. 12 Sterling Planning & Zoning Commission meeting, Revenue Collector and Recording Secretary Judith Stumpo withdrew her application to serve on the commission after it was noted the town does not have an ordinance allowing municipal salaried employees to sit on the Planning & Zoning Commission.
Separately, the commission reviewed the application of Ed Adams and decided to invite him to the next commission meeting for further discussion; no action was taken on Adams’s application during the Jan. 12 session.
Commissioners also discussed regulation priorities and a proposed text amendment to Section 5.02.A, which addresses nonconforming buildings and structures. John Angelone moved, seconded by John Turban, to table the discussion on the proposed amendment until the Feb. 9, 2026 meeting; the motion carried 4-0.
The actions leave the commission with follow-up tasks: staff must confirm the statutory or ordinance constraints that bar a municipal salaried employee from serving, and the regulation-priority discussion will resume on Feb. 9.
