Olds utilities report: 16.11% unaccounted water, hydrant replaced; sewer enzymes and inlet pipe noted

Public works staff reported condition and performance items for Olds' water and sewer systems at the Oct. 8 council meeting.
Tim Wilson told the council that unaccounted-for water measured 16.11% for the reporting period and water usage was 620,000 gallons; meters were read on Sept. 20, 2025. Wilson reported replacement of a fire hydrant on 4th Ave. and said he will contact the hydrant vendor to add protective bollards and then report estimated costs to council. He also said there was no boil order in effect.
On sewer matters, the council reviewed the monthly Iowa DNR report. Wilson said staff will contact BES Water Solutions for additional enzymes to improve treatment, and that an inlet pipe from the LJ Roth property on School Ave. was plugged and will be addressed.
The Water Fund bills list showed a significant line item ($8,152.20) for KP Construction & Hydro Excavating for hydrant replacement; that expenditure appeared on the October bills the council approved during the meeting.
