Howe City Park hearing set; Ogden Fun Days organizer steps down and veterans monument fundraiser proceeds

The Ogden City Council on June 9 set a public hearing for July 14 at 6:15 p.m. to consider bids for the Howe City Park Project and reviewed a playground rendering that included a recommendation to add equipment accessible to children with disabilities.
Councilwoman Lori Anderson said she had received a playground rendering and suggested including equipment for children with disabilities while otherwise endorsing the design. Reimers moved and Anderson seconded to set a public hearing on the bids for July 14 prior to acting on bids.
Shannon Safley announced she will no longer run Ogden Fun Days after this year; the council said it will seek volunteers to form a board to continue the event. Council members also said the city-owned hay field near S. First and W. Division Streets needs mowing and directed the City Administrator to find someone to mow it.
Councilman Dave Ohlson reported the projected cost for a proposed Veterans Monument, created by local artist Dave Williamson, is about $60,000 and he is soliciting donations. In public comment Jason Weber said, "The Ogden 50 Club has donated $900 to the library," and invited others to join the club. Jim McClain thanked the city for the clean-up days.
A public hearing on Howe City Park bids will be the next formal step for the project; the council did not award bids at the June 9 meeting.
