The Aurelia City Council on May 19 approved Casey’s liquor license, authorized a one-day free pool pass for every A‑A student and reviewed its monthly financial reports.
Mayor Dennis Weathers opened the meeting at 6:30 p.m.; four council members — Council Member Bruce, Council Member Johnson, Council Member Nelson and Council Member Redig — were present and Council Member Fassler was absent.
Council Member Redig moved to approve the consent agenda, which included minutes, clerk/treasurer and investment reports; Council Member Johnson seconded. The roll call vote was recorded as Redig, Nelson, Johnson and Bruce voting "aye," with no nays and Council Member Fassler absent, and the motion carried.
The council reviewed the bills payable and finance summaries presented by the clerk. The packet included line items such as Aurelia Electric ($3,440.73), Cherokee County Solid Waste ($5,090.45), Siouxland Trimlight ($5,000.00) and Redig Reloading ($2,000.00). The clerk reported segmented totals for April revenues and disbursements (including Property Tax receipts of $140,502.89) and an overall reported total of $256,606.59; the additional bills subtotal shown later in the meeting was $37,345.44.
On licensing, Council Member Redig moved to approve Casey’s liquor license; Council Member Bruce seconded. All members present voted in favor and the license application was approved.
On recreation, Council Member Johnson moved and Council Member Redig seconded to approve a one-day pool pass for every A‑A student, with the A‑A PTO agreeing to pay the City of Aurelia $1.50 for each ticket turned in to the Aurelia pool. The motion passed with all members present voting "aye." The action directs city staff to implement the one-day pass arrangement as described; no additional funding appropriation was recorded in the minutes.
The council also received a public works report and a landfill report; no police report was presented. Members discussed the fire station but the transcript records no formal motion or decision on that topic.
With no further business, Mayor Weathers adjourned the meeting at 7:27 p.m.
