The Aurelia City Council on April 21 approved a series of infrastructure and community-recreation items, including a city contribution to a Main Street lighting project and a paving contract for Main Street.
Trim Line Lighting representative Clint Corderman described plans to install lights on South Main Street commercial buildings. Aurelia Economic Development received a $5,000 Legacy Grant to cover half the lighting cost; Diane Weathers asked the city to fund the remaining $5,000 and to cover the monthly electrical utilities for the lights. Councilmember Johnson moved that the City of Aurelia pay $5,000 to Trim Line Lighting and start the lighting process; Nelson seconded and the motion passed with all members present voting aye. The city will obtain signed permission from building owners and will pay for the electrical utilities monthly for the lights.
Separately, Councilmember Nelson moved and Redig seconded approval of Blacktop Services’ quote for a 2-inch asphalt milling and 2-inch overlay on Main Street in the amount of $69,135.00; the motion carried unanimously.
Also during the meeting, resident Cody Galvin discussed proposed pickleball courts and the council gave direction to continue researching specific project items; no formal motion was taken. Councilmember Courtney Bruce proposed hosting four movie nights at the park this summer, saying donations would cover the costs of the films and equipment; the council agreed to hold four events with dates to be determined.
The meeting record shows these items were approved or advanced without recorded opposition; staff follow-up will be required to execute contracts and permits and to finalize logistics for recreation events.
