Aurelia council approves consent agenda, liquor license and FY2025 report; sets water-rate hearing notice

Aurelia's City Council met in regular session Oct. 20, 2025, and approved a slate of routine items, including the consent agenda, a liquor license for the Aurelia Golf Course and the city's FY2025 annual financial report.
Mayor Pro-Tem Roman Redig called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Council Member Nelson moved to approve the consent agenda; Council Member Fassler seconded. A roll-call vote was recorded as "aye": Bruce, Johnson, Fassler, Nelson and Redig; "nay": none. The motion carried.
The council reviewed bills payable and the Clerk/Treasurer's reports, which listed routine operating expenditures and larger items shown in the meeting packet. Notable entries in the bills payable included a $58,295.00 roofing invoice and other vendor charges; a $508,314.06 payoff to the Iowa Finance Authority for a water loan appears in the packet totals.
On a separate motion, the council approved a liquor license application for the Aurelia Golf Course. Council Member Bruce moved to approve the license; Council Member Johnson seconded. All members present voted "aye." The council also approved the City of Aurelia's Annual Financial Report for FY2025 on a motion by Johnson, seconded by Bruce; the motion carried with all members voting "aye."
Council Member Nelson moved and Council Member Fassler seconded Resolution 25-14, directing the city clerk to publish notice of a hearing on proposed amendments to Chapter 92 (Water Rates). The motion carried on a unanimous vote; the resolution instructs the clerk to publish the hearing notice as required.
The council announced that community trick-or-treating will be held Friday, Oct. 31, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:33 p.m.
Meeting attendees listed Stephanie McSparran (City Clerk) and several staff and residents. Additional administrative items reported included public works and landfill reports.
