Hertford approves sewer assessment task order and funds wayfinding signage

The Hertford council on Jan. 23 unanimously approved several staff proposals, including a task order for a sewer assessment funded by an AIA grant and a budget amendment to pay for wayfinding signage on Highway 17.
Manager Janice McKenzie Cole explained WithersRavenel Task Order #7, which covers work under an AIA grant for a sewer assessment totaling $150,000. Mayor Pro Tem Ashley Hodges moved to accept the task order; Councilwoman Connie Brothers seconded the motion and the council approved it unanimously.
The council also approved Budget Amendment #FY23-7 to fund wayfinding signage on U.S. Highway 17 at a total cost of $32,282.89. Cole said the county will contribute approximately one-third of the cost (about $10,000) and asked that the Town use General Fund dollars to cover the remainder because other town expenses, such as supplies for public restroom renovations, are variable. Councilman Jerry Mimlitsch moved to approve the amendment; Councilwoman Sandra Anderson seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Council minutes indicate staff will proceed with the sewer assessment under Task Order #7 and coordinate signage installation with the county partner; project updates were directed to be reported back to the council.
