Commissioners cited an earlier trip to Washington, D.C., and described a direct appropriation the group obtained; during the discussion the chair referenced a "million-dollar direct appropriation" tied to that effort and asked Phillips to draw up exact detour-cost figures so the commission could pursue state representatives for additional funding. A local-share figure of approximately $255,000 was discussed as the county portion to meet required matches.
The commission asked the engineer to develop cost estimates for improving the detour route and to provide drawings and cost breakdowns for use in budget planning and state outreach.
