The St. Clair County Commission on April 28 approved an ATRIP‑2 agreement with the Alabama Department of Transportation to build additional turn lanes on US‑231 between north of Eastaboga Road and just south of Johnson Drive.
County Engineer Dan Daltry said ALDOT will provide up to $2 million for the project; St. Clair County and Pell City are expected to provide a local match that Daltry estimated at roughly $700,000 combined, with final numbers to come as plans are developed. The project was described as aimed at easing congestion near Goose Valley School and adjacent intersections.
The commission also approved a separate agreement to hire GMC (formerly Goodwyn Mills & Cawood) to complete design and planning work for the project at a cost presented as $268,000, which will cover development of plans and bidding documents. Commissioners approved both the ATRIP‑2 agreement and the GMC design contract by voice vote.
Both votes were recorded as carried; the agreements are subject to further plan development and any required budget actions when final local match amounts are confirmed.
