Hertford council approves site‑prep contract, budget transfer and a community cross walk

Council approved a $8,500 task order with Withers Ravenel to prepare land for a new 10,000‑square‑foot Public Works building. Town Manager Janice McKenzie Cole said the scope includes zoning review, utilities, floodplain and wetlands compliance; Mayor Pro Tem Ashley Hodges moved approval and Councilman Jerry Mimlitsch seconded. The motion passed 5‑0.
Council also approved Budget Amendment FY23‑13 to transfer funds from the Wastewater‑Sewer fund to the Water fund to cover vehicle repairs. Manager Cole said the town’s certified public accountants confirmed the intra‑department transfer is acceptable. Councilman Mimlitsch moved the amendment and Councilwoman Sandra Anderson seconded; the vote was unanimous.
The council granted permission for the Piney Woods Friends’ Good Friday cross walk on April 7 beginning and ending at Hertford Baptist Church at 5:30 p.m. Manager Cole noted participants will walk on sidewalks only and no street closures were required. Councilwoman Connie Brothers moved approval; Councilman Mimlitsch seconded and the item passed 5‑0.
