The Board of Selectmen approved a $50,000 appropriation from capital non‑recurring funds for preliminary engineering of the Boxhall Street multi‑phase reconstruction project.
Public works director Gary Schneider said Haley Ward (the town’s on‑call civil engineer) will perform the study and that survey and environmental review are likely because a brook or wet area runs alongside the road. Schneider described the work as a general scope to identify drainage, wetland considerations, shoulder/stormwater treatments and any need for additional right‑of‑way or rock excavation.
Members discussed design priorities such as leaving room for future shoulders or bike lanes and maximizing grant opportunities. A town contact representing the engineering consultant indicated work could start within roughly four weeks after approval and survey scheduling.
The appropriation passed; staff said the study will provide a turnkey design package to put the larger project out to bid. The Board emphasized coordinating with the planning and environmental staff and pursuing state and regional grant programs where possible.
