Finance committee approves $10,000 transfer for weights and measures equipment

Finance Director John Steinberg told the committee the transfer covers equipment and training needed after the assistant building inspector position was added and weights-and-measures duties were consolidated in the community development office. “We’re hoping we won’t need the whole $10,000,” Steinberg said, explaining that some town-owned equipment may already be available.
Committee members moved and seconded the transfer and recorded six affirmative votes. Bradley seconded the motion; roll-call responses in the meeting audio show six “yes” votes and no opposition. The committee’s approval allows staff to begin purchasing the identified items so inspections can continue without interruption on July 1.
The transfer was described as a reallocation within the community development budget to cover one-time equipment and training costs; Steinberg said staff will inventory existing equipment and likely spend less than the full amount requested. The committee did not attach additional conditions and directed staff to proceed with procurement and keep the committee informed.
Next steps: the town finance office will sign the approved transfer and support the community development team in acquiring the equipment and scheduling necessary training.
