Dr. Holly Hageman, the district superintendent, said she will investigate whether the district can retain the current policy without recent updates or adopt an updated policy while excluding the privacy provision related to parents. The committee did not present P#5145.53 for a first reading at the upcoming Board of Education meeting and agreed to revisit the item at the November policy meeting.
In the same session the committee accepted three other policies "as presented" and scheduled them for a first reading on Oct. 24, 2024. Those items were P#0521 (Nondiscrimination Policy and Notice), P#5114 (Suspension and Expulsion/Due Process), and P#7230.2 (Indoor Air Quality/Heating and Air Conditioning). The minutes do not attribute the acceptance language to a specific speaker; the record states the committee accepted and will place the items on the Oct. 24 agenda.
The meeting was called to order at 5:35 p.m. and adjourned at 5:59 p.m. Policy subcommittee member Angela Colantonio moved to adjourn; member Amy Kuhrt seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously, recorded as 2–0 in the minutes. The meeting took place in the Elmer Thienes‑Mary Hall Elementary School library; the minutes are marked "UNAPPROVED DRAFT" and were submitted by Carmela Monte.
The next Policy Committee meeting is scheduled for November, when the committee expects to take up the transgender policy again after administration follow‑up.
