Trustees voted to approve a new job description that would convert an existing ~13-hour library assistant role into a part-time administrative assistant to handle backend administrative tasks such as processing payroll paperwork, routing bills, organizing shared drives and scheduling leadership meetings.
The director told the board the position is intended to reduce the administrative burden on leadership staff and that the town’s nonunion salary study places the role at the administrative-assistant grade being used by other departments. She said the role must be submitted to and approved by the selectboard because it is a town-position classification rather than an internal hire decision.
During discussion trustees asked about scheduling and desk coverage implications; staff explained they modeled hours against existing workflows and expect the change to be feasible within the budget and staffing plan. A motion to approve the new admin-assistant job description was made, seconded and approved by voice vote; the transcript does not record a roll-call tally.
Next steps: staff will submit the approved description to the selectboard for classification and employment-authority action, and leadership will work on a plan to reassign desk hours to maintain public service coverage.
